Start Gate is a millwright shift board. Wren rules three enamel columns — left, gate, right — and Dexter punches a watch only after Nell names Cumberland fog or dry brick shade. A push nickname is not a roster line.

Why a shift board
Pushes are hallway talk. Columns are grease.
Players want the pretty finish they watched on a Sunday. Public Square does not finish shots. It marks leaves. If the ball starts right of Wren's gate on Liberty Park grain, the column is LATE no matter how romantic the curve looked at the flag.
Nell keeps two climate columns because Cumberland fog and dry warehouse shade are two tours, not one kindness. Dexter refuses costume lofts the way a millwright refuses a punch card from last week.
